Our History

Carlisle Aquatics is a competitive swimming club with over 150 swimmers. We were formed in 2011 from an amalgamation of City of Carlisle Amateur Swimming Club, Carlisle Water Polo and Carlisle Masters. Swimming in Carlisle goes back to 1920 when Border City ASC was formed, followed by a breakaway group in 1944 who set up Carlisle Secondary ASC. They changed their name to Carlisle City in 1981. Carlisle City and Border City merged in 1997 to form City of Carlisle ASC.

From 1920 until 2022, the clubs swam in the Public Baths, James Street, Carlisle, which were opened in 1884. In 1975 the site was extended with the building of a 33 1/3 metre pool and renamed The Pools. This pool was later reduced in length to 25m with the introduction of a boom. On 14 November 2022 we moved to a new, purpose built facility with a 25 metre pool at The Sands Centre, Carlisle CA1 1JQ.
